Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science Diamond and Precious Metal Geology Institute, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (DPMGI SB RAS) is a scientific organization. Institute was founded as an Institute of geology, Yakutian branch, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, according to decree № 57of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, dated 18th of January, 1957; it was integrated into Siberian branch, when the latter was established.
Institute was renamed Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science Diamond and Precious Metal Geology Institute, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences by decree № 262 of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences, dated 13th of December, 2011.
According to Federal law № 253-ФЗ “On Russian Academy of Sciences, reorganization of State academies of sciences and amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation”, dated 27th September, 2013, and decree of the Government of the Russian Federation № 2591-р, dated 30th of December, 2913, Institute was transferred to The Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations (FASO Russia).
Registered title – Diamond and Precious Metal Geology Institute, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences,Short title – DPMGI SB RAS.
First director of the Institute – candidate of geologic-mineralogic sciences Y.P. Ivensen. Later the Institute was headed by corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR I.S. Rozhkov (1957–1964), honored workers of sciences of Yakutia and Russia, doctor of geologic-mineralogic sciences K.B. Mokshantsev (1965-1987), corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR V.V. Kovalsky (1978-1986), doctor of geologic-mineralogic sciences B.V. Oleinikov (1987-2000), doctor of geologic-mineralogic sciences L.M. Parfenov (2000-2002), doctor of geologic-mineralogic sciences A.P. Smelov (2002-2014). At present, honored worker of sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), doctor of geologic-mineralogic sciences, professor V.Y. Fridovsky is director of the Institute.

Main aspects of scientific research:- inner structure of lithosphere of cratons and collision zones- geology, mineralogy and forecast of diamond and precious metal deposits.
DPMGI SB RAS – the easternmost scientific division of the Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, performing large-scale integrated theoretical and applied researches in the field of fundamental problems of the Earth sciences: tectonics, magmatism, regional geology, paleontology and stratigraphy, structure and formation of the main types of the Earth patterns, identification of regularities of location and formation of solid mineral deposits. Objects of study – unique geologic structure of the Siberian platform and Verkhoyansk-Kolyma folded area, containing complex of strategic types of mineral resources, primarily diamonds, precious and rare metals, hydrocarbons.
